There are many different home decorating styles and you should choose the one that works best for you. Each one portrays a different image of those that reside in the home and no matter which one you choose, the effect you create will be yours alone. Some of the styles that are the most common are:
Country home decorating styles – This style uses antiques for furniture and accents. Cotton is the predominant fabric and all the decorating ideas enhance the wood of each room. Within this style, there is French country, which tries to combine the elegant and the rustic using hues of yellow and blue, while the cottage country style of decorating uses pastel colors and wicker.
Contemporary home decorating styles are concerned with having everything in clear straight lines and an uncluttered look. Bold and bright patterns are used and stripes are the most common. The walls are painted with neutral colors and the bright or contrasting color of the accessories adds life to the room. A contemporary style also uses abstract art work and vinyl flooring.
The traditional home decorating styles help to create classic elegance in any room. The use of pillows and rugs as accessories give a comfortable, cozy feeling and are offset by the use of crystal vases and lamps. The fabrics are usually floral, while the colors used are muted hues of whites and greys contrasted with darker hues of green, red, or burgundy.
If you really don’t have a particular home decorating style and just put different colors and accessories together, you have what may be termed a eclectic style of decorating.
