Summer weddings are typically defined as taking place between May and September. Many couples take advantage of warm weather, sultry summer evenings, endless sunshine, lush green gardens and clear blue skies. The city of Philadelphia has much to offer in the summer time. Many couples look at Philadelphia to offer guests a vacation weekend. Here are some things to avoid as you plan your outdoor wedding in Philadelphia.
Avoid last minute scares… Don’t forget a back up plan!!! All couples wish for the perfect sunny summer day but you must be prepared for the “what if” since weather is one thing you just can’t control. The ideal wedding ceremony location has a beautiful garden outside but also offers a nice indoor setting in case of rain. If your ceremony venue does not offer this as an option – consider placing a tent on hold. Most tent rental companies will allow you to place a tent on hold for a fraction of the rental cost. This allows you to make a last minute decision when you are more aware of the weather possibilities.
Avoid being lost in the background noise. The city of Phialdelphia is a busy place so don’t let the background noise of the city prevent your guests from hearing your vow exchange. Make arrangements for microphones either through a local production company or speak with your band who may be able to help you out with this.
Avoid a lifetime of disappointing pictures - plan for GREAT pictures. Philadelphia offers some FAB! picture places. Talk to your photographer about places you would like to be seen. Philadelphia LOVE Park is a great place to capture your philly style. Bring a white sheet so that you can cover park benches and sit in the local gardens. Remember that Philly has some wonderful water fountains. City Hall has a lovely fountain, which is located on the southwest corner of City Hall. At 18th and Walnut you will find the Rittenhouse Square fountain. In the summer the city park commission changes the water color in most of the fountains. This can offer a spectacular and colorful backdrop.
Avoid unwanted guests - don’t be bothered by bugs! Purchase citronella candles for outdoor cocktail tables. Bounce fabric sheets will keep way the bumble bees so make sure you have a box on hand for the bars that are located outside.
Avoid over heated guests - don’t forget the fans! In case of hot summer days offer your guests a fan for the ceremony. Your wedding program can be designed as a hand held fan. This is a unique touch for any outdoor ceremony.
Avoid boredom - don’t forget to show your guests around – duck style! Your guests will love seeing the city from the famous duck! This 70 minute tour takes your visitors through Philadelphia’s Historical Disctrict, Society Hill, South Street and then onto the Delaware River.
Avoid hungry travelers - Welcome your guests as they check into the hotel… Philly soft pretzels and SLY water are two great refreshments. Not many people know that Sly Sylvestor manufactures his own brand of water!!
