What Makes You Happy?
I’m not big on philosophy. In fact, I’m more of a logical realist than a theoretical philosopher. But the question, “what makes me happy” always leaves me philosophizing on life and what it all means. There’s no logical answer for it. We all strive for happiness and to attain the definition of what we believe it to be. But in our seeking of happiness, can we ever truly just be happy? Every now and again I like to step back from the business side of Planaganza and explore why I really do this. And when it comes down to it, constructing the site, implementing new tools, designing the pages, and thinking of ways to market Planaganza just makes me happy! The whole thought of what Planaganza could mean to people makes me really happy. And sometimes, happiness is just that simple. I’m not seeking happiness or looking for it, I’m just being happy. Happiness is not a series of analyzed circumstances that equal happiness when they turn out in our favor. Rather, happiness is the feeling you get when you’re doing something you love or when you feel content and at peace despite the chaos that swarms around you. Happiness is knowing that in every failed attempt there is a valuable lesson and in every victory there is someone who you can use your success to help. That’s what makes me happy. What makes you happy?

Dare to be happy!
As I was driving south on Interstate 95 this weekend, I was intrigued by the new Volkswagon billboard ad campaign. The ads highlight the new Volkswagon Beetle Convertible with the tagline “Dare to be happy”. My personal favorite read, “Woe isn’t you. Dare to be happy”. That is great! As a person who detests the victim, “woe is me” attitude, I loved this ad! It literally made me laugh out loud. Afterall, isn’t happiness the goal of life–to carve out a place for yourself and have fun doing it? For me, that’s what Planaganza is all about. Celebrating the milestones of life and having fun doing it. Pursue your passions, enjoy every day, dare to be happy – its definitely a break from the predominant negativity of today’s world. Be the light someone needs to see today!
Other VW ad taglines:
- Jaded is so overrated. Dare to be happy.
- Misery has enough company. Dare to be happy.
- Negate negativity. Dare to be happy.
- Cynicism is so last year. Dare to be happy.
Celebrate Life’s Events!
It dawned on me today as was working on the Planaganza site that there are more “events” to plan than I originally thought. Buying a new home is, in fact, a life changing event that requires extensive planning. However we tend not to think of home buying when we discuss event planning. The same is true of having a baby or starting a new business. These are the extra special events of life that truly deserve preparation and creative thought. Maybe we should put as much effort into planning these events as we do our parties, brunches and socials. Just a thought.

Design your vision
I was thinking that it would be very useful for our blog viewers to read something other than my raving on and on about how excited I am about Planaganza. So while the site is in development I will attempt to provide you with my two cents about… what else…event planning! In fact, some people look at event planning as an art form and an events’ design speaks volumes about the planners eye for style. Now I know the term “event design” sends off red flags in our heads that conjure thoughts of expensive, lavish, celebrity-attended events. However, even if you don’t have an Oprah budget to hire Colin Cowie as a planner you can still design an event that will make your guests feel special.
First start by visualizing your event from beginning to end. Visualize the room, the decor, the music, the aroma, and your guests. What are you guests wearing – casual chic or spring sassy? What colors do you see – chocolate brown with a dash of pink or vibrant orange with teal blue accents? Do you see dancing all night long or intellectual conversation? All these pieces will play a significant role in your event design. Every event, no matter how small, starts with a vision.
To help formulate your vision, start collecting inspiration photos. Did you love that centerpiece you saw in this month’s issue of Brides magazine? Do you just adore the invitations that your friend sent out for her husbands 40th birthday party? Collect photos of these things and blend them together to make your event unique. Remember, your vision will become your event.
